US toughens auto demands as NAFTA talks continue: The Globe and Mail

The Trump administration has toughened one of its most contentious demands, according to The Globe and Mail. The US is demanding that a higher percentage of content in autos made in the NAFTA zone should come from factories where workers are paid at least US$15 to $17 an hour. 

The auto-content has been the biggest sticking point in the NAFTA deal. A couple of weeks ago, the US did soften its stance on the issue as it watered down its demand that cars include 85 percent North American content to avoid a tariff and lowered the number to 75 percent.
