Awful day in Wall Street as Dow and S&P fell to 1-month low
FXStreet (San Francisco) - The US stocks market closed with a sharp drop on Wednesday as investors are taking profits and operating with low volume amid risk aversion. The Dow performed its worst day since October 9 after collapsing 267 points. It was also the worst day of the S&P's since October 13.
The energy sector fell more than 3% since the shares were under pressure as the OPEC reduced the estimate of production and demand by 2015. Oil fell 3.85% on the day. Treasurys rose as 10-year bond was 0.37% up and he 30-year was 0.52% positive on the day. Gold declined 0.24% to $1,229.00.
Al sectors declined on Wednesday with principal actors the Energy shares (-3.45%); Materials (-2.19%); and Industrials (-1.90%). Small caps dropped 2.20% to 1,161.87.
